Japanese-style fish – aromatic and easy to prepare

Japanese-style fish is a dish that combines the juiciness of the fillet, crispy pancake batter, and the delicacy of vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce. Its greatest advantage is its versatility – it tastes excellent both cold and hot. Therefore, it’s perfect as an appetiser, main dish, or even as part of a buffet at parties.

Recipe for Japanese-style fish

Ingredients:

  • 600 grams of pollock fillets (or another white fish),
  • 3 halves of pickled bell peppers,
  • 3 pickled cucumbers,
  • 3 large onions,
  • oil for frying.

For the pancake batter:

  • 1 egg,
  • 120 ml of water,
  • 60 grams of flour,
  • salt, pepper.

For the marinade:

  • 4 tablespoons of tomato paste,
  • 120 ml of water,
  • 2 tablespoons of oil,
  • 4 tablespoons of distilled vinegar,
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar,
  • 1 teaspoon of salt,
  • ½ teaspoon of sweet paprika.

Preparation:

  1. Cut the fillets into approximately 5-centimetre portions.
  2. Prepare the pancake batter by mixing all ingredients.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Coat each piece of fish in the batter and fry on both sides until golden brown.
  4. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl.
  5. Slice the onion into feathers, and the bell pepper and cucumbers into strips.
  6. Add the onions to the pan and sauté. Then add the bell peppers and cucumbers. Pour over everything with the prepared marinade and bring to a boil.
  7. On a platter, layer the fried fish and vegetables in the marinade.
