Israel kills two key Hamas leaders in Rafah airstrike

As a result of the Israeli military attack in Rafah, two Hamas commanders responsible for terrorist attacks in the West Bank were killed. Since the start of the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, more than 35,000 people have died, and 80,000 have been injured.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the commander of Hamas headquarters in the West Bank and another senior member of the terrorist group were killed during Sunday’s Israeli airstrike in Rafah.

As emphasized by the "Times of Israel," the West Bank headquarters is a Hamas unit accused of conducting attacks on Israel from the West Bank.

Yassin Rabia, the head of the West Bank headquarters, and Khaled Najjar, another senior member of the unit, were killed in the strike in the Tel Sultan area in northwestern Rafah, the mentioned source emphasizes.

USA versus Israel. More tensions arise

Meanwhile, tensions continue between Netanyahu and U.S. President Joe Biden over how the Israeli leaders are managing the war in Gaza. Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, said on Thursday, 23 May, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will soon give a speech at a joint session of Congress.

Meanwhile, according to Al Jazeera, citing health officials in Gaza, nearly 60 people were killed in the latest Israeli attacks on the refugee camp in Rafah, and dozens were injured.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported 81 deaths and 223 injuries in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll from the recent attacks to 80. Since the start of the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, more than 35,000 people have died, and 80,000 have been injured.
