Last weekend was a celebration for Ipswich Town players and fans alike. In the crucial final match of the Championship season, Ipswich triumphed 2-0 over Huddersfield. This victory secured them second place in the league and a direct promotion to the Premier League, marking their return to the top flight for the first time in over two decades since the 2001/2002 season.

Ed Sheeran stands out as the club's most illustrious fan. The beloved singer's association with Ipswich is so strong that he became its sponsor and was even made an honorary player in 2021. Over recent seasons, he's bought advertising space on the players' jerseys to promote his music and tours. Unfortunately, due to his attendance at the Met Gala, Sheeran missed the celebration last weekend but more than made up for it shortly afterwards.

On Wednesday (May 8), Sheeran joined the Ipswich players' celebrations, at the age of 33, he shared several short videos on his X service profile. In these, he plays the guitar and sings one of his hits while the Ipswich players enthusiastically join in. The videos clearly show Sheeran's joy and comfort amongst the team, as he is seen embracing the players from time to time.

The videos of Sheeran with the team have quickly spread on social media, amassing views from several hundred thousand fans. Many have commented, expressing their happiness to see the star so profoundly connected with his favourite club.

Leicester City has also earned promotion to the Premier League alongside Ipswich. The final spot will be determined through playoffs involving Leeds United, Southampton, West Brom, and Norwich City, the teams that finished third to sixth in the league.
