CIA chief's final Ukraine visit amid rising tensions with Russia
Bill Burns, Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, made his final visit to Ukraine as the head of the CIA. This information was shared by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, on social media. Zelensky emphasised that meetings with Burns took place in various locations around the world, including Europe and America, always discreetly without informing the public. After the visit concluded, the President of Ukraine wished Burns and his family well.
President Zelensky noted that the details of the discussions with Burns will not be disclosed, but assured that contact between them will be maintained. He expressed hope for another meeting and highlighted their mutual goal of ending the war with true and lasting peace.
Zelensky also announced the continuation of attacks on Russian military targets, including bases and military infrastructure, which are used for terrorist activities against Ukraine.
International support for Ukraine
The President of Ukraine thanked everyone who supports his country, especially those who advocate for increased defence spending in Europe and the modernisation of arsenals. He emphasised the importance of international support in the face of Russian aggression.
Bill Burns, the CIA Director, held a significant meeting in Kyiv, which took place before possible new negotiations concerning the conflict with Russia. His visit is a response to the intensified actions of Russia in the Zaporizhzhia region, where Russian forces plan an offensive involving 50,000 soldiers. However, Ukraine is intensifying its defence measures, ready to respond to aggression.
Russia is threatening Ukraine with the use of modern "Oreshnik" missile systems, adding another layer of pressure in the conflict. Vladimir Putin also warns of escalation, emphasising the possibility of combat testing his offensive capabilities. Both Ukrainian and Western military forces remain on high alert.
At the same time, a global debate continues on increasing defence spending, particularly in the context of threats from Russia.
