According to Reuters, which cites the Russian defense ministry, one of the military transport aircraft, an Ilyushin Il-76, crashed on Tuesday (March 12) shortly after takeoff with 15 people on board.

The Russian Defence Ministry reported that the crash occurred in the Ivanovo region. Russian internet services have reported that no one survived. The statement mentioned that the probable cause of the crash was an engine fire during takeoff.
Social media videos showed the aircraft with a burning engine, falling down. A dark cloud of smoke rising into the sky was shown.
As reported by the Nexta profile on the X platform, eyewitnesses report that huge smoke was visible in the area of the northern airport. According to the latest information, military equipment is being brought to the crash site.
The Il-76 aircraft are used to transport people and cargo, including military equipment. These are not large machines, as they can accommodate almost 100 peoplemaximum.

Dismal statistics of Russian aviation

The state of aviation in Vladimir Putin's country is dismal. According to data from the German database Jacdec, last year Russia recorded 74 incidents related to flight safety. While in 2022, there were 36 of them. An analysis of data by the Wall Street Journal shows that the average frequency of such incidents increased from 4.5 per 100,000 flights to 9.9.

Year by year, the situation is getting worse, as evidenced by last week's situation. Anton Heraszczenko, an advisor to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported on his profile on the X platform (former Twitter) that four Russian airlines experienced flight failures in one day.
