Changing requirements faced by the military on the modern battlefield highlight the growing role of drones. Drones—both civilian and military—are invaluable in executing a variety of missions, from attacking specific targets and conducting reconnaissance and surveillance missions to transporting medicines, food, and even arms. Ukraine provides a perfect example, where both sides utilise numerous unmanned models, many of which can breach seemingly secure enemy air defences or spectacularly destroy armoured equipment.
PHANTOM - A new unmanned vehicle from Hungary
The Hungarian company Uaviator has clearly recognised the significance of unmanned vehicles, having introduced the PHANTOM drone to the world. Army Recognition points out that it is a machine designed with modularity in mind, allowing the UAV to be configured according to the needs of a specific mission. "The ability to equip or remove non-essential components makes it an extremely versatile drone, suitable for a wide range of operational applications," the service reports.
Available information indicates that PHANTOM is a UAV with a mass of 600 kilograms, capable of carrying payloads weighing up to 500 kilograms (its total takeoff weight is as much as 1,100 kilograms). This is enabled by its special design. The drone can ascend to an altitude of 6,000 metres, and its range is estimated at 9,980 kilometres. Practically, this capability allows for long-range missions, including international missions.
The creators of PHANTOM have also integrated stealth technology, making it difficult for the UAV to be detected by available observation methods. This includes radar detection and challenges in thermal radiation and electromagnetic emissions detection. Such innovations enhance the drone's operational capability in sensitive environments where avoiding detection is crucial.
