Hulu revives Prison Break universe with fresh characters
Who hasn't watched "Prison Break"? Today, the series is experiencing a revival thanks to Netflix. Meanwhile, Hulu has commissioned a pilot for a new version of the popular series, which will centre on new characters within the same universe.
Hulu has decided to order a pilot episode of a new iteration of the popular series "Prison Break." As reported by "Variety," this new version will not focus on the well-known characters, Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, but will introduce a new group of prisoners.
The return of "Prison Break" - what do we know?
Given the wave of nostalgia for various hits from years past, it was anticipated that this series would also receive a new version. So far, it is known that Elgin James, co-creator of the series "Mayans M.C.," alongside 20th Television, will be responsible for production. Also among the executive producers are Dawn Olmstead, original "Prison Break" creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz.
Admittedly, this isn't much information. We shouldn't expect plot details at this stage, but foreign media confirm that fans of "Prison Break" have finally received confirmation that the story will return to the small screen.
The original "Prison Break" aired for five seasons on Fox, and its success led to the television movie "Prison Break: The Final Break," as well as the spin-off "Prison Break: Proof of Innocence," which did not receive as warm a reception as the original. The story, featuring Michael Scofield, an engineer who, after learning that his older brother was wrongfully convicted, deliberately got himself imprisoned in the same jail. He covered his body with tattoos hiding the layout of Fox River prison. Slowly, while in captivity, he begins to execute his plan, and viewers follow along with bated breath.
The first season was so well received that the creators were awarded a Golden Globe. It even inspired the creation of a video game, webisodes, a magazine, and a novel. The main roles were played by Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Paul Adelstein, among others.
