Honda recalls 2 million cars over faulty steering concerns
Service campaigns are commonplace these days. Often, they relate to relatively minor issues. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Honda. This one pertains to faulty steering gears that impede vehicle control.
On Wednesday, 9th October, Honda announced an official service campaign covering 2 million vehicles in North America. The issue is driving difficulties in some models, which, in severe cases, might lead to accidents.
The problem may affect cars manufactured between 2022 and 2025, including models such as the Civic, CR-V, HR-V, and certain Acura vehicles. Honda reports that since 2021, they have received as many as 10,328 warranty claims regarding this problem.
Of the cars in the service campaign, 1.7 million are in the USA, 240,000 in Canada, and 58,000 in Mexico. Their owners will be contacted to bring their vehicles to service centres to rectify the issue.
According to an investigation initiated by the NHTSA in 2023, Honda's steering gear may experience excessive friction, resulting in unnatural resistance and erratic system operation. The repair involves replacing a spring in the gear and possibly applying a new lubricant.
According to NHTSA, the defect may be linked to as many as 13 accidents in the USA. However, there is no information on the extent of injuries or fatalities.
