A salad at a house party is always a good idea. Everyone loves them; they’re filling and colourful, and you can use seasonal ingredients. A traditional favourite is vegetable salad, which tastes better in cooler weather. Gyros salad is also trendy. Are you looking for something new? Here’s the Hollywood salad—light but with character.
First, cucumbers but from the pan
This salad consists of just a few well-composed ingredients. The first is cucumber, often used in summer salads, best known for the famous mizeria. These vegetables are perfect in the summer because they contain 90% water. Therefore, they provide good hydration and are low in calories. They are ideal for a quick snack because they contain fibre, which improves metabolism and digestion. They also contain vitamins C and B vitamins. All of this makes them good for a light, even slimming diet. The Hollywood salad tastes different than usual because they are... pan-fried. We don’t often eat them in this form.
Secondly, pan-fried corn
The next ingredient is less obvious: corn kernels pan-fried in oil. Sweet corn is characterised by a high content of polyphenols, thus possessing strong antioxidant properties. Moreover, heat treatment, pasteurisation, and fermentation increase the antioxidant activity of corn. Corn is also a source of fibre, magnesium, and vitamin E, which can help regulate insulin levels and improve bowel function.
Hollywood salad
Ingredients:
- an ear of corn (or optionally canned corn),
- a large hothouse cucumber or three large field cucumbers,
- two tablespoons of chopped dill,
- one tablespoon of chopped coriander,
- one tablespoon of coconut oil,
- lime juice to taste,
- salt to taste.
Preparation method:
- Remove the corn kernels from the ear. Heat the coconut oil in a pan. Add the corn and fry for about three minutes.
- Wash the cucumbers and cut them into cubes. Add them to the pan and fry for another 30 seconds. Transfer everything to a bowl and sprinkle with salt. Allow to cool.
- Drizzle the salad with lime juice and sprinkle with herbs. Mix.
