Hogwarts Legacy sequel leaps forward to Marauders' era

"Harry Potter" is a gigantic brand - one of the largest in pop culture franchises, remaining not only afloat but at the top for over 20 years. Over these few decades, all seven books have been turned into films, the play "The Cursed Child" has been performed on Broadway and the West End, and the "Fantastic Beasts" series, a spin-off of the original story, has been released. This is in addition to games, guides, textbooks, and other merchandise from the universe.

In 2023, the Harry Potter craze exploded once again with renewed enthusiasm, all thanks to the game "Hogwarts Legacy," developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game was released on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox platforms. It is set in the 19th century, and players assume the role of a Hogwarts student with the ability to wield ancient magic. Their mission is to stop villains plotting to unleash chaos in the wizarding world.

The game's storyline is somewhat lacking, but the atmosphere is unparalleled. Exploring the world is a delightful experience, largely due to familiar locations and the truly magical aura, which are certainly the greatest strengths of "Hogwarts Legacy."

nThe game continues to sell well - a year after its release, over 30 million copies have been sold. Fans will likely be pleased to hear that although the title will not receive any new downloadable content, only bonus content (approximately 10-15 hours of new gameplay), work is underway on a sequel - the second part of "Hogwarts Legacy."

A new game about quidditch, a seven-season "Harry Potter" series, the first part of which is expected to premiere on MAX in 2026, and the second part of "Hogwarts Legacy" - all Potterheads must be thrilled. David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, mentioned in an interview with "Variety" that the studio "places a high priority on this title."

"We know that for some time now, fans have been clamouring for more adventures in this universe. We always keep that in the back of our minds. We've observed that there is not much difference between younger fans of the brand and older ones. Everyone is a dedicated fan of Harry Potter, and we strive to create authentic experiences to satisfy them," Haddad added.

The president of Warner Bros. also revealed that, apart from "Hogwarts Legacy," several mobile games are also in production and will be tied to the MAX series. What does this realistically mean? The action will be moved about 100 years forward and will likely take place during Harry's school years or perhaps his parents' era - in the Marauders' era. This is certainly good news for those who did not enjoy battling goblins.
