Harris widens lead over Trump in latest Ipsos-Reuters poll
According to a survey conducted by Ipsos for Reuters, Kamala Harris is expanding her lead over Donald Trump. Nearly 47% of respondents plan to vote for the U.S. Vice President in the November elections, while 40% intend to vote for the former President.
Survey data shows that 46.61% of respondents would like to vote for Kamala Harris, while 40.48% favour Donald Trump. This result is seven percentage points better than the previous survey.
When asked which candidate has a better approach to issues of the economy, unemployment, and jobs, 43% of respondents indicated Trump and 41% backed Harris.
Trump's two-point lead in this area is comparable to his three-point lead in the August Ipsos survey for Reuters, but it is significantly lower than his 11-point lead over Harris at the end of July.
U.S. elections are indirect
The U.S. presidential elections are indirect, not direct. This means that in each state, voters formally vote for electors from the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, or another candidate.
In each state, the party wins a different number of electoral votes, which total 538 across the country (50 states and the District of Columbia). Therefore, the majority needed to win the race to the White House is 270 Electoral College votes.
