Harris edges Trump in tight presidential race, leads in key states

According to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll, Vice President Kamala Harris has an edge over Donald Trump in the race for the office of President of the United States. She leads 48% to 47%; in one state, her lead is as much as 11%.

According to the poll, Harris is winning against Trump in seven key states, and at the national level, she leads by 1 percentage point. This is a significant change compared to the Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll from early July, which showed Trump with a 2% lead over Joe Biden. The incumbent president eventually withdrew from the race for the White House, and the Democratic candidate will likely be Harris.

Published on Tuesday, the poll showed that Kamala Harris gained an 11-point lead over Trump in the state of Michigan, a 2-point lead in Nevada, a 2-point lead in Arizona, and a 2-point lead in Wisconsin.

Donald Trump, on the other hand, has a 4-point lead in Pennsylvania and a 2-point lead in North Carolina. In Georgia, both Harris and Trump garnered 47% support.

Particularly notable is Harris’s 11-percentage-point lead in Michigan. In the 2020 presidential election, the Democratic victory in this state was narrow—Joe Biden won over Donald Trump by a margin of less than 3%, whereas four years earlier, Trump narrowly defeated Hillary Clinton in Michigan.

The poll surveyed 4,973 registered voters from 24 July to 28 July. The margin of error is 1 percentage point.

American media reports indicate that the Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll suggests that Kamala Harris’s campaign has gained momentum.

Other polls published since Harris became the likely Democratic candidate have similarly shown a tight race in the contest for the office of President of the United States between the Vice President and Trump.

The U.S. presidential election will take place on 5 November.
