In an interview with the agency, the Hamas spokesperson said that the concept of a temporary ceasefire was previously discussed, after which hostilities have continued. Al-Nunu heads the organisation's press office and has served as an adviser to the head of the group's political bureau.
Negotiations in Qatar
According to AFP, quoting a source involved in the negotiations in Qatar, mediators propose a truce for less than a month. The proposal includes the release of hostages captured from Israel in October 2023 in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and an increase in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
According to al-Nunu, the proposal has not yet been presented to Hamas. He stressed that the organisation maintains its earlier demands, which include a full cessation of hostilities and the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.
Reports suggest that more than 60 hostages and the remains of 34 individuals who died during last year's Hamas attack on Israel may still be in the Gaza Strip. The organisation is using these bodies as leverage in negotiations.
