The video, posted on TikTok by a resident of Greece, sheds new light on lesser-known aspects of this popular tourist destination. Instead of picturesque islands and stunning landscapes, the footage reveals an entirely different side of Greece that you never see in travel agency brochures.

In the video viewed by 4 million internet users, dark alleys, neglected housing complexes, graffiti-covered walls, and homeless people sitting on the streets are visible. This sight astonishes tourists who have only had the opportunity to get acquainted with Greece's beautiful beaches, architecture, and cuisine.

Reactions to the video on TikTok were mixed. Many internet users expressed surprise at the contrast between the idyllic image of the country presented in promotional tourist materials and the reality shown by the residents.

The video quickly went viral, gaining the attention of the global online community. It also highlights this charming country's social and economic challenges outside the tourist season.

I thought Greece was just a holiday destination - wrote a user.
Every country has a dark side - added another.
I've been to Athens three times. The city looks like a third-world country - commented an internet user.

Is Greece not as beautiful as they paint it? The other side of the tourist paradise

The resident's perspective also prompts reflection on how much the tourist image of a country can differ from its daily life and problems. On the pages of o2.pl, we also addressed the Greek island of Santorini, which drastically differs from tourists' imaginations.
