At merely 19 years old, George Earthy entered the pitch in the 82nd minute of the match against Fulham, taking over from Michail Antonio and marking his first appearance in the esteemed Premier League. Regrettably, this moment won’t be remembered with joy. His debut was cut short due to a collision with his teammate, Edson Alvarez.
The game was halted for eight minutes following the incident, after which Earthy was stretchered off the field, equipped with an oxygen mask and a neck brace. Thankfully, by the time he was leaving the London Stadium, Earthy was alert.
It was a head knock. He’s awake and gone to hospital for checks. We think he’s OK at the moment. I’m really disappointed for George. He’s been doing really well in training and with the under 21s, getting much closer to the first team. He had some really nice touches when he came on.- commented West Ham's coach, David Moyes, as reported by the British media.
Earthy has been with West Ham United since he was just under six years old. At 17, he inked his first professional contract with the club. His initial appearance in the first team was during a Europa League match, in a 5-0 victory over Freiburg. The young player has also represented England at under-15 and under-16 levels.
