His story sounds like something straight out of a movie, which is hard to believe for many. The thought of surviving an accident like the one Loren did seems nearly impossible.
In September 2019, the young man, who worked as a road worker repairing a bridge, was operating a forklift on a road narrowed by construction work. An avalanche of events was triggered by a driver who failed to notice the changes on the road and crashed into the construction area at high speed.
Loren attempted to escape the oncoming vehicle but got too close to the bridge's edge and, along with the forklift, fell several dozen feet down. The heavy vehicle, weighing almost a ton (about 0.9 metric tons), landed on him, crushing him and squashing half of his body.
The British portal express.co.uk writes about his life today, after undergoing intensive treatment and rehabilitation. His survival, likely aided by landing on a softer surface, is miraculous.
American hero inspiring millions
After being airlifted to Seattle, a team of doctors made a desperate bid to save him. They amputated everything from the waist down, as well as his right forearm, during the operation.
His pivotal period of rehabilitation coincided with the onset of the pandemic. Loren's then-girlfriend and now-wife, Sabia, provided the greatest support during this time.
She continues to stand by him, providing a strength that allows Loren to shine, even outshining those who are healthy. As the portal describes, the couple enjoys considerable popularity online. Thousands follow them, and their videos have garnered 33 million views.
The stories they share are not always light and cheerful. Loren faces challenges daily, grappling with pain and the complexities of interpersonal relationships. However, he has found a way to persevere and seek the brighter side of life through his online community.
