FKA twigs accuses Shia LaBeouf of delaying testimony in abuse case
The lawyers representing FKA Twigs have accused the actor Shia LaBeouf of delaying testimony in the ongoing legal proceedings. The singer alleges that LaBeouf sexually, physically, and emotionally abused her, and knowingly infected her with a sexually transmitted disease.
According to documents obtained by the "Daily Mail", lawyers for the 36-year-old English singer FKA Twigs have accused 38-year-old actor Shia LaBeouf of avoiding the provision of evidence. They claim that LaBeouf is "blatantly elusive and irresponsible", highlighting that he has submitted only nine pages of documents, thereby delaying the proceedings.
"It seems LaBeouf has something to hide, as he claims he does not have other documents because he lost or destroyed his electronic devices or destroyed important information before these proceedings commenced," the lawsuit states.
In contrast, FKA Twigs' lawyers (her real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett) emphasize that the artist "has provided extensive documents and substantive written responses."
The singer's lawyers also accuse LaBeouf of attempting to delay the trial. They allege he waited until the last minute to schedule dates and "refuses to be deposed first," which they find inexplicable.
The lawsuit points out that for FKA Twigs, as a "resident of the United Kingdom," depositions in California require prior planning and are highly burdensome.
LaBeouf's lawyer, Shawn Holley, told the "Daily Mail": "This dispute concerns only whose deposition should be taken first. Trying to turn a very simple issue into something sinister is unfortunate." According to court documents, the deposition was postponed to 25th October, although it remains unclear which party will be deposed on that day.
Relationship ended in scandal
The couple began dating in 2018 while working on the film "Honey Boy". LaBeouf portrayed a fictional version of his father, and FKA Twigs played a small role. They split in 2019.
In December 2020, FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing LaBeouf of "relentless" sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, and of knowingly infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease. LaBeouf denies all allegations.
