Fire at a strategic facility

At approximately 7:30 AM Greenwich Time, the BAE Systems shipyard, where the fire broke out, announced that it had still not been extinguished.

Photos published online show flames and thick, black smoke billowing from the roof of a large building located on the shipyard premises.

According to company information, this is the second-largest shipyard of its kind in Europe, employing about 10,000 workers.

At the BAE Systems shipyard, key units for the British Navy, including Astute and Dreadnought-class nuclear submarines, have been built.
