Elon Musk's investments are always under the global public microscope, typically provoking surprise and stirring disparities. This time, those with a penchant for aeronautics have set their sights on a Boeing 737-800, previously in the possession of Air China. The intrigue doesn't stop with the aeroplane itself, the distinctive colour scheme has also raised eyebrows.

Does Elon Musk's grey and black aeroplane forebode trouble?

The colour scheme of Elon Musk's aeroplane quickly captured the attention of conspiracy-theory buffs. With a grey exterior and a black strip that threads through the windows, it's reminiscent of the Janet fleet, a plane line that regularly journeys to the Nellis Air Force Range in southwest Nevada. This connection is not assumed lightly, given the latter location is reputed to be the most heavily guarded place on the planet. Here resides the American military’s training grounds and the global legend that is the Area 51.

Area 51 is a designated site where American forces test technological innovation. The exact details of its interior remain largely unknown due to the stringent security measures. Conspiracy theorists hold onto the belief that it may harbour evidence of extraterrestrial life, a belief which found more traction when the government confirmed the base’s existence only as recently as 2013.

Why does Musk require a bulk-size aeroplane?

The motive behind the investment is unclear. In its previous servitude with Air China, the Boeing 737 held the role of a transport plane. Consequently, many assume that the aircraft will be utilised to convey large-scale SpaceX products. Others suggest that Elon Musk purchased the plane in order to shuttle SpaceX employees to sites for testing new technologies. A final speculative theory is that the aircraft will be implemented in the trial of new technologies aiming to revolutionise both military and civil aviation. This possibility is hinted at through the aircraft's ominous and militaristic paintwork.
