Egypt offers free summer visas for travellers to Luxor and Aswan
Good news for tourists planning a trip to Egypt. The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities has announced that the country will introduce free visas for travellers. However, there are important conditions to be met.
Currently, anyone planning to visit Egypt must purchase a visa — either at the airport upon arrival or electronically before departure. The cost of a 30-day tourist visa is £20 per person. Tourists choosing to holiday on the Sinai Peninsula are exempt from this fee.
Two privileged airports
According to the announcement by Sherif Fathy during the International Tourism Fair Fitur in Madrid, soon, foreign visitors flying directly to Egypt will be exempt from the visa fee. The condition is that their planes must land at international airports in Luxor or Aswan.
As stated by Mohamed Othman, head of the Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee in Luxor, all tourists will be exempt from the visa fee, regardless of whether they fly to Luxor or Aswan on scheduled flights or charter aeroplanes.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, the visa exemption will be in effect from the beginning of May to the end of October this year.
- This decision aims to encourage tourists to visit Luxor and Aswan during the summer, when the number of visitors to this region decreases due to high temperatures. It is part of the government's plan to stimulate cultural and archaeological tourism in Upper Egypt - said Sherif Fathy.
Luxor is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. It features attractions such as the Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings and Queens. Aswan is famous for the Temple of Isis, the Nubian Museum, and the Aswan High Dam.
