Edward Enninful's farewell to British Vogue: 40 influential women grace cover, Meghan Markle missing

British "Vogue" has been published under the artistic direction of Edward Enninful since 2017. Notably, he was the first man to hold the position of editor-in-chief at the iconic fashion magazine. In June, however, he resigned from this role and transitioned to Conde Nast media company.

The March issue of British "Vogue", Enninful's last, commemorates several years of his leadership. He invited the biggest stars who all played parts in shaping the unique legacy of his term. Among the featured women were luminaries like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Gigi Hadid, and Cara Delevingne. Notably absent was his friend, Meghan Markle.

British "Vogue" Omits Meghan Markle

In 2019, Edward Enninful collaborated with Meghan Markle on one of the magazine's issues. The Duchess of Sussex, as she was then known, developed a cover highlighting women she admires. She left a space empty so that readers could feel included in the project. Interestingly, she chose not to feature her own image.

We debated from the start about the cover - whether she would be on it or not. Eventually, she expressed concern that it might seem "boastful" given the nature of this unique project. Instead, she wanted the focus to be on the women she admires - Edward Enninful detailed Meghan's decision.

Despite the established friendship between Meghan Markle and "Vogue's" editor-in-chief, Prince Harry's wife isn't featured on the final cover. Internet users were quick to notice her exclusion.

British "Vogue" assembled 40 women from across the globe for the most epic photo shoot in the magazine's history. The shoot, which took place one day in New York, didn't include Meghan Markle; five years later, when her public profile grew increasingly controversial, Edward decided not to feature Meghan on his last cover, which "celebrates influential women". Among those featured include some of Meghan's known friends, notably Oprah Winfrey and Serena Williams, - a statement on X (formerly Twitter) reveals.
