Dwyane Wade reveals prostate cancer battle and surgery
Dwyane Wade, a former NBA player, revealed that at the age of 41, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He decided to undergo immediate surgery to remove the tumour. "Thank God I did it," he said on his podcast "The Why With Dwyane Wade."
Dwyane Wade confessed that during a routine check-up, doctors discovered a tumour on his right kidney, which forced him to undergo surgery to remove 40% of his kidney. He added that since 2019, when he retired from basketball, he hadn't been having regular check-ups. Some concerning signs prompted him to get tested, influenced also by his father's previous surgery.
Wade did not expect serious health problems, but he was concerned by minor ailments, such as stomach discomfort and a weakened urine stream. However, a full examination revealed the presence of a tumour that could not be biopsied. Surgery became necessary.
I think it was the first time my family — my dad, my kids — they saw me weak. That moment was probably the weakest one I've ever felt in my life. - said the former basketball player on his podcast.
