Less than three months after its theatre premiere, Disney+ users in the UK can watch one of the biggest box office hits of the year – "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes." The film's success "marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the series," which began in the 1960s.

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" is a direct continuation of the trilogy that enjoyed great popularity in cinemas from 2011 to 2017. Its protagonist was Caesar, an ape whose intelligence developed rapidly due to a medical experiment. In the film's three parts, we learned about the events that led to Earth becoming the Planet of the Apes.

The action in the latest part occurs 300 years after Caesar's death. Apes rule the world, and humans have been forced to live in hiding. Proximus Caesar, a tyrant, intends to enslave both other related tribes and intellectually degraded humans. The new leader becomes obsessed with finding buried human technologies.

The latest film in the "Planet of the Apes" series received the so-called "Fresh Certificate" on Rotten Tomatoes. It garnered 80% positive reviews from critics and 77% ratings from viewers. It also became a global hit in cinemas (nearly 310 million pounds in revenue) and "marks the beginning of a new era in the history of the series," as promotional materials state.

The success of "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" will undoubtedly lead to more productions. Screenwriter and producer Rick Jaffa revealed that his concept involves three series of films each. So, we are not even halfway yet.

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" will be released on the Disney+ streaming platform on 2nd August, less than three months after the film's theatrical release. It will join the long series of "Planet of the Apes" films, including productions from a few years ago, Tim Burton's 2001 movie, and five films from 1968 – 1973, starting with the cult classic starring Charlton Heston.
