Denmark's F‑16 boost for Ukraine: A game-changer in air defence
Denmark has delivered six F-16 fighters to Ukraine. According to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's latest statements, made during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kyiv will receive 13 more Western aircraft in the near future. These planes, which have demonstrated their effectiveness during the recent extensive Russian attacks, will provide valuable reinforcement to the Ukrainian army.

Frederiksen noted that the schedule for fighter deliveries is on track, and the training of Ukrainian pilots on the F-16 is progressing smoothly. "The training process has been challenging, but we have made significant progress," said the Danish prime minister, adding, "We are proceeding according to plan, and the second and third batches of aircraft will arrive in due course." Danish planes will be a significant support for the Ukrainian Air Force.
The F-16s are a significant enhancement of the Ukrainian army's capabilities
Ukrainian pilots are increasingly using F-16s to defend the country actively, and a greater number of aircraft and more trained pilots will enable the execution of a wider range of combat missions. Recent reports indicate that the F-16 fighters provided by the West played an important role in repelling the massive Russian shelling on 17 November at 15:00 GMT, during which drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles were used. F-16s reportedly shot down about 10 objects that day.
The F-16 fighters that have reached Ukraine are a key element of the military support provided by Western countries. These aircraft were delivered thanks to the initiative of countries like the Netherlands, which promised to send 24 fighters to Ukraine and Denmark. However, it is worth noting that despite being delivered gradually, F-16s are not currently used on the front lines. This is due to strategic security considerations and the limited number of trained pilots. The aircraft are primarily supporting air defence against long-range attacks.
The F-16 is a single-engine, multi-role fighter designed for operational flexibility and effectiveness in various combat scenarios. Its design allows it to reach speeds of up to 2,400 km/h (1,500 mph), making it one of the fastest military aircraft. It is equipped with advanced radar systems capable of simultaneously detecting and tracking multiple targets, giving pilots a crucial advantage on the battlefield.
F-16 aircraft are also characterized by high manoeuvrability and the ability to carry a wide range of weaponry, including air-to-air missiles and precision air-to-ground munitions. Thanks to their modular design, F-16s can be adapted to specific mission needs, which is extremely important under changing operational requirements.
