Sweet croissants served with jams or chocolate spreads are a truly Italian breakfast, commonly enjoyed across the sunny map of Italy. However, you don't need to look for cheap flight tickets or scour the town searching for tasty croissants, because you can make milk croissants at home.
Sweet milk croissants
Milk croissants are a true classic among pastries. Their delicate, fluffy dough, combined with milky sweetness, makes them an essential part of many breakfasts and afternoon snacks.
The aroma of freshly baked croissants fills the whole house, immediately whetting the appetite. The preparation is quick, but you need to wait a while for the dough to rise. They are so delicious that they disappear from the plates immediately; some people don't even bother with any toppings. However, you can dip them in your favourite jam, chocolate, or pistachio cream.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of wheat flour,
- 20 grams of yeast,
- 1 cup of warm milk,
- 3 tablespoons of sugar,
- 2 eggs,
- 80 grams of butter,
Additionally:
- milk for brushing,
- powdered sugar,
- apricot jam.
Preparation Method:
Step 1. Pour warm milk into a bowl, add sugar, crumble in the yeast, and mix. Set the starter aside for 10 minutes to let the yeast activate.
Step 2. In a large bowl, place the flour, add the starter and eggs, and knead the dough, incorporating the softened butter in the process. Cover with a cloth and let it rise for an hour.
Step 3. After this time, briefly knead the dough on a flour-dusted surface. Divide into two parts. Roll each part into a circle and cut into triangles. Roll up the croissants.
Step 4. Place the croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with milk. Put them in an oven preheated to 200°C for 12 minutes.
Step 5. Decorate the baked and cooled croissants with powdered sugar. Serve with your favourite toppings. Enjoy!
