Decoy alligator causes stir in rural Washington lake
The residents of a small town in Washington State were surprised when an alligator was spotted in a local lake. It was caught and turned out to be something else entirely.
According to the "Daily Mail," the residents of the small town in Washington State experienced a moment of horror when an alligator was spotted in the cold waters of a lake in Cowlitz County. Officers from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife arrived at the scene to investigate.
Upon arriving, Officer Blaine Corey cautiously approached the water where the dangerous reptile was allegedly swimming. Corey and his colleague quickly became suspicious about whether what they saw was a real alligator. "Is that an alligator? Is that a fake? Is it a toy?" the man asked.
Corey decided to wait to see if the alligator would move. It soon became clear that the reptile was just a decoy. Corey pulled it out of the water with a stick, resulting in both laughter and relief.
Yeah, that's fake. Its tail's not even attached to it. It's zip tied onto it, Corey remarked, as quoted by "Daily."
Prank or danger?
Corey commented that someone apparently wanted to play a prank on the residents. The officer pulled the fake alligator to the shore, so it wouldn't scare locals away from the lake's waters. Alligators are not a species naturally found in Washington State. This is understandable, as these reptiles aren't particularly fond of the cooler climate there.
Although in this case the alligator turned out to be just a decoy, authorities remind us that releasing foreign species into Washington's waters is not only illegal but also inhumane, as these species cannot survive in local conditions.
Well, that's one way to keep people out of your secret fishin' hole—commented the recording by "Northwest Sportsman," as quoted by "Daily Mail."
