Despite the ongoing economic crisis in Cuba, the island saw an exceptional surge in tourist arrivals in 2023. The government reported the highest number of visitors since the COVID-19 pandemic, hoping this year will mark an even more successful chapter for the tourism industry.

Cuba is vigorously enhancing its appeal as a top holiday destination. You can fly to the Pearl of the Caribbean throughout the year. However, the period from November to April is particularly popular among tourists.

Tourists in Cuba

Government data reveal that in 2023, Cuba welcomed over a million international tourists, noting the highest number since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, as announced by the Havana administration.
Visitors predominantly came from Canada, Russia, the United States, Germany, and France.

Despite deteriorating sanitary conditions in hotels, growing shortages of energy, food, and medicine, and social unrest, Cuba's enchanting locales continue to attract tourists. Varadero, the island's top resort, and Havana's capital are among the must-visit destinations.

Accounting Discrepancies

As previously reported, Juan Carlos Garcia Granda, the Cuban Minister of Tourism, stated that the island attracted over a million tourists in 2023. Nonetheless, independent Cuban media have highlighted a significant discrepancy in these figures, suggesting that around three million tourists were initially expected throughout the year. This discrepancy is notably surprising. Nevertheless, it's widely acknowledged that the most accurate data typically comes from the last updates provided by government bodies.
