According to a report from the Hungarian economic portal G7.hu, Hungarians are flocking to grocery stores in southern Slovakia. Individuals living far from the border, even more than 62 miles away, are increasingly opting to shop in their northern neighbour's markets.

As the portal observed, parking lots of grocery stores in Komarno (Hung. Revkomarom), a town in southwestern Slovakia on the border with Hungary, are brimming with cars bearing Hungarian registration plates every weekend.
"The Slovak town is currently the main attraction for cross-border food shoppers," G7 notes, highlighting that Kaufland, absent in Hungary, ranks as the favorite among Hungarian shoppers.
It's not just those residing near the border making the trek. More and more people living beyond 62 miles from Slovakia are choosing to shop there, as reported by the portal, echoing sentiments found in social media groups.

Hungarians dissatisfied

A recent Ipsos survey, discussed last Friday by Hungarian media outlets, reveals a stark discontent among Hungarians. A staggering 83 per cent believe their country is on the wrong path, a sentiment of disillusionment surpassed only by Peru. Additionally, only 17 per cent view the state of their national economy positively.

The primary concerns among the Hungarian populace, as Ipsos data show, include corruption, poverty, and inflation.

This survey was conducted from March 22 to April 5, 2024, in 29 countries using the Ipsos Online Panel system. It gathered responses from 25,302 individuals, 500 of whom were from Hungary.
