Child in cage sparks outrage in Orenburg community

A child behind steel bars is certainly not a regular sight. However, in Russia, anything seems possible. A man and a woman kept a young girl in a cage.

In current times, keeping animals in cages raises objections: much is said about the need for freedom, respect, and dignified treatment. The mere thought of people behind bars causes anxiety. We tend to imagine prison unpleasant, but it must still meet specific standards. People in cages, on the other hand, evoke ideas of complete deprivation of freedom.

So, can it be considered normal that two people were spotted on the street in the city of Orenburg in western Russia holding a young child in a small cage?

A video showing a man and a woman with a small child went viral on the internet. The man was pulling a suitcase on wheels, and the woman had... a cage, inside which sat a little girl. The "playpen" was also on wheels but looked like an ordinary industrial cage: tight and small. The child couldn't sit upright; she crouched and hunched, tucking her legs under her. A small dog trotted behind the (probably) family.

A random witness recorded the video, and it quickly spread across the internet, initially going viral on Telegram - one of the popular online messengers. The video swiftly spread on X. The police were notified of the situation and are actively searching for the family. Nothing else is known at this time.
