Chappell Roan clarifies stance on presidential endorsements amidst backlash

Taylor Swift has voiced her support for Kamala Harris, while Elon Musk backs Donald Trump. Many expected Chappell Roan to make a similar announcement.

American singer Chappell Roan has chosen not to endorse any candidates for president of the United States. Her decision came as a surprise to many. She advocates for the LGBT community and promotes makeup styles popular among drag queens. For many, it seemed logical that she would support Kamala Harris, who champions LGBT rights. However, she chose otherwise, necessitating an explanation from the artist.

On Tuesday, September 24, Chappell Roan posted a video on TikTok addressing remarks she had made in an interview. The singer stressed that her comments were taken out of context and urged U.S. citizens to employ their critical thinking skills. She believes it is essential to scrutinise all politicians, including those from one's preferred party.

- I have encouraged people to use critical thinking skills, learn about what they’re voting for, learn about who they’re voting for and ask questions, and it’s being completely taken out of context, per usual. [...] I think it’s important for me to question authority and question world leaders and question myself, question my algorithm, question if some person that tweeted something about someone else is even true. It’s important to question because that’s how I think we move forward - said Chappel Roan.

The singer emphasised that she will not vote for Donald Trump because she does not want a white man to have the main say in matters affecting the rights of the LGBT community, particularly transgender people. She mentioned that this does not alter the fact that she will always scrutinise all politicians because they have a significant impact on her life.
