Isma'il Haniyeh was killed on 31 July in Tehran. Hamas reported that an airstrike killed him, but according to "The New York Times", the cause of death was an explosive device that detonated on his property.
Israel is suspected of killing the political leader of Hamas. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the leader of Iran, has already vowed revenge.
Americans and Israel prepare for retaliation
The Biden administration is convinced that "Iran will carry out a retaliatory attack for the killing of Isma'il Haniyeh within a few days". The Israeli armed forces and the U.S. military are already preparing to repel the strike, Axios writes, citing three anonymous officials from the U.S. government.
According to the portal, Iran's attack may resemble Tehran's strike on Israel on 13 April. About 350 drones and missiles were sent to Israel at that time. Most of them were intercepted by Israel's defence systems. Likely, Hezbollah will also join the planned retaliation.
The leader of the Lebanese group, Hassan Nasrallah, announced that the party will avenge the death of Hezbollah's chief military advisor. He died during an airstrike in Beirut.
American intelligence sources report that repelling the retaliatory attack by the coalition of Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas will be more difficult than in April. Saudi Arabia and Jordan may limit their involvement. All because the attack on Isma'il Haniyeh is strongly associated with the controversial Israeli attack on the Palestinian Authority.
