The Belgian Ministry of Defence confirmed that on 11th October, additional security measures were implemented in several military bases across the country due to reports of possible sabotage and surveillance threats.
Elevated threat level
Consequently, the security level was raised from the basic Alfa to Bravo, which is the second of four possible protection levels, each requiring the implementation of appropriate precautionary measures.
The elevated threat level necessitates additional security measures, particularly for the security personnel in individual barracks. However, for security reasons, no specific details of the steps taken have been disclosed.
Special units in the Baltic Sea
Belgium is also preparing for potential sabotage actions. On Friday, "RBC-Ukraine" reported that due to the threat of sabotage by forces specialising in counter-terrorism, German GSG 9 units will be deployed in the Baltic Sea. These units will protect the infrastructure in the Baltic and North Seas.
