Baltic nations unite for sanctions against Georgia crackdown
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have imposed sanctions on those responsible for suppressing protests in Georgia, announced Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.
Estonian Foreign Minister, Margus Tsahkna, declared that the Baltic countries have jointly decided to impose sanctions on those responsible for suppressing protests in Georgia.
"The three Baltic States jointly agreed to impose national sanctions against those who suppressed legitimate protests in #Georgia. Opponents of democracy & violators of human rights are not welcome in our countries," wrote Tsahkna on platform X.
Sanctions for suppressing protests
The decision on sanctions is a response to the brutal suppression of demonstrations in Georgia, which began on Thursday. The protests erupted after the government suspended talks with the European Union regarding membership.
The police used water cannons, stun grenades, and tear gas, leading to numerous arrests and clashes.
For now, it is not known exactly whom the sanctions will affect or what form they will take. However, the Baltic countries emphasize that they will not tolerate the violation of human rights and the suppression of democratic protests.
