Assassination attempt on Trump: Secret service chief resigns

On 13 July 2024, an unsuccessful assassination attempt was made on Donald Trump, who is running for President of the United States. The Republican was shot in the ear during his speech. As a result of this incident, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle tendered her resignation.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle tendered her resignation - Reuters reported. On Monday, Cheatle stated that the assassination attempt on the Republican candidate for President of the USA, Donald Trump, was "the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades."

"I take full responsibility for the security lapse", said Cheatle regarding the events from  July 13th, Trump's campaign rally in Pennsylvania when the Republican presidential candidate was injured in the ear. "In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director."

Assassination attempt on Donald Trump

To recap, on 13 July, there was an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the Republican candidate for President of the USA. The former President of the United States was shot in the ear. According to the FBI, the assassin was a 20-year-old Pennsylvania resident named Thomas Matthew Crooks. The attack resulted in two deaths, including Crooks, and two others were seriously injured.

In the upcoming presidential election, Donald Trump was set to face the current President of the USA, Joe Biden. However, the Democrat announced that he would not be running. Biden endorsed current Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, although she has not yet received the official nomination from the party. The election in the USA will take place on 5 November.
