Since the launch of the iPhone 11 in 2019, Apple has consistently maintained the design of its square camera module. This distinctive feature is shared across all models, including the base and more advanced Pro and Pro Max series. However, it now appears the manufacturer plans to introduce significant differences in the appearance of its series.
Blogger Sonny Dickson shared photos on the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that supposedly showcase the iPhone 16, 16 Pro, 16 Plus, and 16 Pro Max models. Accessory manufacturers typically use the dummies in the photos to adjust their cases or protective films to the new sizes.
According to earlier leaks, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are set to abandon the square module in favour of an elongated one. Additionally, the lenses, which until now were arranged diagonally, are to be positioned in a straight line. This modification is most likely aimed at introducing the capability of recording 3D movies in standard models, which until now was only possible in Pro versions. The new spherical video feature has been designed with the Vision Pro glasses in mind.
The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will also inherit the universal Action Button from the iPhone 15 Pro models, replacing the iconic notification management slider. A new button is expected to appear on the opposite side of the device, likely serving as a physical camera shutter release.
Although the base models in the line are set for a redesign, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max versions may not witness major changes in design. According to leaks, Apple will maintain the square camera module with its characteristic lens arrangement for the sixth consecutive year for these models. However, it is worth noting that the screen sizes in these versions are expected to increase from 6.1 and 6.7 inches (about 15.5 cm and 17 cm, respectively) to 6.3 and 6.9 inches (approximately 16 cm and 17.5 cm, respectively).
The new iPhone 16 series is expected to be officially introduced worldwide in September, generating considerable interest among brand fans and the technology industry.
