Alpine A110 Ultime R: A powerful farewell to a sporting icon
Oh, what a car it was! Seven years after the resurrection of the Alpine brand, the A110 model is bidding farewell to the market. However, the French wouldn't be themselves if they hadn't prepared something special for this occasion.
This year's Paris show is hosting the debut and send-off of the Alpine A110 – one of the best-driving sports cars of recent years. The manufacturer has unveiled the final special edition, Ultime R, which is arguably the best incarnation of this model.
It stands out not only with superior power but also with enhanced aerodynamics. The 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 350 horsepower and 420 Nm of maximum torque. To fully exploit its performance, you need to refuel with 102-octane petrol. It's worth it, as acceleration to 60 mph will only take 3.8 seconds.
The power is directed to the rear wheels by a 6-speed automatic EDC transmission featuring more aggressive software, complementing the sharp nature of this version.
The more robust drivetrain is combined with a redesigned suspension based on components from Öhlins. Meanwhile, the brakes with 33 cm discs were supplied by AP Racing.
We must also mention the improved aerodynamics. A sizeable rear wing and additional splitters result in downforce that is 160 kg more than in the R Turini version. This difference is particularly noticeable on the track. Alpine claims it tested this version on the most famous circuits, with help from Esteban Ocon in perfecting the final adjustments.
Uncompromised performance does not mean sacrificing comfort. On board the Ultime R version, we find air conditioning, multimedia, and support systems. This final variant will have only 110 units produced, and each one, according to "Motor1.com," is expected to cost £229,000. Well, you pay for uniqueness.
