The name of the teenager accused of murdering three children during dance classes in Southport, United Kingdom, has been revealed. Axel Muganwa Rudakubana appeared in court. He has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
The tragedy in England claimed the lives of Bebe King (6 years old), Elsie Dot Stancombe (7 years old), and 9-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar. Eight other children and two adults suffered knife injuries. Five children are still fighting for their lives in hospital.
Judge Andrew Menary KC, despite Rudakubana's young age, decided to disclose the identity of the accused to prevent the spread of misinformation.
This is an extraordinary step, considering Rudakubana is only 17 years old. However, the judge felt that full disclosure of information was necessary, given the accused's approaching 18th birthday.
The teenager, born in Cardiff to a family from Rwanda, has been remanded in custody. The trial in his case will begin in January next year.
The knife attack sparked riots in the country
The attack on participants of the dance workshops in Southport caused a wave of riots across the entire country. The local community is calling for calm, but in response to the attack, there have been acts of violence in many cities, including damage and clashes with the police.
The parents of the victims also spoke out, condemning the violence. Although false information about the accused's status as an asylum seeker appeared in the media, the police are still investigating, trying to determine the motives behind this tragic act.
