The new lock from Xiaomi is distinguished by an advanced identification system based on finger veins, which allows for more precise security than standard fingerprint readers. The Smart Door Lock 2 Finger Vein Version, already available for pre-sale in China, enables unlocking in ten different ways, including through NFC, entering a password, Bluetooth, and using a traditional key. The manufacturer emphasizes that the recognition error is minimal, only 0.0001%, significantly improving over previous solutions.

How much does the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 cost?

Xiaomi offers its latest lock at a promotional price of 1299 yuan, which converts to approximately £160, with a deposit of 100 yuan, or about £11. After the pre-sale period, the price of this device will increase to 1499 yuan, or about £175. The lock is also equipped with a quiet locking mechanism and alarm, and its battery can last up to a year on a single charge. The lock's status can be remotely monitored using the Xiaomi app, allowing for full integration with the HyperOS smart home system, as reported by Notebookcheck.

Are such locks safe?

Biometrics, or identification technologies based on unique physical or behavioural characteristics, is increasingly being applied in various fields, from security to mobile devices and banking systems. Biometrics can provide a high level of security, but like any technology, it can also have weaknesses. Using it wisely is essential, ideally in combination with other security methods.
