Windows snipping tool trials new data table feature
The Snipping Tool, available on Windows, will soon include an additional feature. As part of the Insider programme for system testers, data recognition in tables is currently being trialled. The Tool is designed to allow users to copy visible data so that it can be used in applications like Excel.
The service Neowin mentions details of the upcoming changes to the Snipping Tool. This new option is already available in test versions of Windows 11 on the Dev and Beta channels of the Insider programme. The Snipping Tool can recognise a table in the specified area of the screen and then copy the data within it to "extract" it for further use in applications such as Excel.
According to Microsoft's official announcement, currently the Snipping Tool can recognise a maximum of one table visible in a selected area. Judging from the included screenshots, the programme can effectively recognise the entire structure of the table, including headers and data types.
Testing in the Insider programme unfortunately does not at this stage guarantee when the new option for the Snipping Tool will be available in the stable release of Windows 11. It is expected sometime in the coming months. The system has recently been updated through Moment packages released a few times a year. Recently, however, Microsoft has been focused on the release of Windows 11 24H2, which also introduced several new features.
