Even with infrequent updates, the Task Manager remains an important system application in Windows 11. From time to time, it receives noteworthy changes. Recently, these updates have mostly been aesthetic; however, technical advancements, including monitoring the load of the NPU unit, have also been introduced. So far, this feature has been exclusively compatible with Intel hardware.

As just confirmed and reported by Tom's Hardware, NPU load monitoring will soon be available for computers equipped with the latest AMD processors. The NPU, or Neural Processing Unit, is a chip optimized for performing artificial intelligence computations. On Windows 11, various upcoming applications, one of which is set to generate additional frames to support the GPU, will benefit from this feature.

In the foreseeable months and years, monitoring the activity of the NPU in computers may become a crucial element of diagnostics and component analysis. AMD anticipates that incorporating such units into CPUs will be a game-changer. It's expected that a significant amount of software will utilise the advantages of calculations performed by NPU modules.

The release of the aforementioned Windows 11, version 24H2, which is set to include a new feature for easier monitoring of AMD processors, is expected in the latter half of 2024.
