Paving stones are a popular garden material. Unfortunately, weeds often grow in the gaps between the individual blocks. Instead of picking them out with a knife, preparing a homemade spray can be a more effective long-term solution.

Paving stones are an exceptionally durable material commonly used in home gardens. They are frequently chosen for driveways, among other uses. Regrettably, grass and weeds tend to sprout in the crevices between the blocks, which can look unsightly and lead to uneven surfaces.

Consider making a homemade spray rather than spending hours on your knees removing moss, grass, and weeds. This quick solution can help you maintain the elegance of your paving stones for a longer time.

Homemade Weed Spray

While many commercial products are available to combat weeds, trying a homemade mixture can be a good first step. It’s not only efficient and effective but also affordable, requiring just two ingredients.

To create an effective homemade spray for weeds in paving stone gaps, mix vinegar and water in a 2:1 ratio, which equates to about 1 litre of vinegar to about 500 millilitres of water.

It’s crucial to mix the ingredients correctly by pouring the vinegar into the water, not vice versa, adhering to the principle - "remember young chemist, always pour acid into water." Doing it the wrong way can cause the mixture to splash and lead to unpleasant accidents.

Spray it on the paving stones, and the weeds will quickly disappear

The vinegar and water mixture should be transferred to a spray bottle and tested on a small area to ensure it does not harm the paving stones. If no discoloration occurs, you can spray the mixture onto the gaps from which the weeds are growing. The vinegar will cause the weeds to dry up and die off quickly.

Doing this on a sunny day is most effective when the sun can help accelerate the drying process. If weeds reappear a few days later, repeat the action. After two or three applications, the weeds should be gone for a good while.
