After the meeting in Washington with US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a Weimar Triangle summit. One of the main topics of discussion was assistance for Ukraine.
Leaders after the Weimar Triangle meeting
Tusk thanked the German Chancellor and the French President "for recognizing, without any unnecessary delay, without the sometimes typical political bargaining or hesitations, that assistance for Ukraine must be immediate and as intense as possible".
Today we spoke with one voice, primarily about the security issues of our continent, our countries, all of course in the context of the war. We have the same opinion regarding who bears full responsibility for the escalation of tension, who is responsible for the tragic events in Ukraine, who is the aggressor, and who deserves our unconditional support – said the head of the Polish government.
He emphasized that they want the money to be spent on assistance, to improve the situation in Ukraine in the coming weeks and months, rather than deteriorate.
The German Chancellor said that the Weimar Triangle is "a very important sign of our unity". - And unity is so important, our three countries are among those providing the greatest assistance to Ukraine in the fight against the imperialist aggressor - Russia - in terms of political, military, and financial support. We stand firmly and steadfastly by Ukraine's side - declared Scholz.
He emphasized that Friday's talks in Berlin were about how to further support Ukraine.
Today we agreed on several main areas, including, from now on we will be purchasing even more weapons for Ukraine, namely on the entire global market, which is a good improvement. Secondly, we will expand the production of military equipment, also through cooperation with partners in Ukraine. Thirdly, we will establish a new coalition within the Ramstein format capable of providing long-range missile artillery - announced Scholz.
He added that "also within the EU we will enhance our support". - This week, we made critical decisions in Brussels. The European Peace Facility will receive £4 billion (approximately £4.4 billion) to provide further military support for Ukraine this year and to strengthen the EU training mission - said the German Chancellor.
On the other hand, the French President emphasized that the approach to the conflict in Ukraine is consistent.
We will do everything that is necessary and for as long as necessary, so that Russia cannot win the war against Ukraine. We will continue our support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people as long as it is needed – assured the French President.
As he also pointed out: "We will never undertake any initiatives leading towards escalation". - Our determination is crucial - he added.
We also share the belief that our security and future are at stake in what is happening in Ukraine. We will resolutely oppose Russia's aggressive war - said Macron.
