Waning optimism: Fewer Ukrainians see EU future for nation
A study conducted regularly by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology highlights a growing negative sentiment among Ukrainians regarding their country's future. Notably, the belief that Ukraine will be a prosperous EU member in a decade has substantially declined.
In the survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology at the end of 2022, 88% of respondents were optimistic that Ukraine would be a prosperous EU member within 10 years.
This optimism has been waning. In 2023, the figure decreased to 73 percent; in the latest survey from December 2024, it further declined to 57 percent.
The attitudes of Ukrainians are increasingly changing
Participants were also questioned about Ukraine's potential economic challenges due to military actions. In 2022, only 5 percent were concerned about this, but two years later, this figure rose to 28 percent.
Respondents also provided opinions on whether Ukraine would gradually address challenges and progress towards a unified society with diverse political views. The percentage of positive responses fell from 69 percent in December 2023 to 53 percent in December 2024.
Moreover, the number of people fearing that adversities will increase, leading to a potential division within the Ukrainian nation, has risen from 25 to 33 percent.
