Via Ferrata jam in China mountains leaves tourists hanging
So many tourists flocked to the famous Yandang Mountain in China that they got stuck in a traffic jam on the Ferrata, with a cliff behind them. The chilling video quickly went viral on the internet.
Last weekend, many tourists chose the same destination, Yandang Mountain, in eastern China. This was because the Chinese had a day off on May 4th for Labor Day.
Via Ferrata is a climbing-oriented tourist trail. The tourists were attached to a rope suspended on a cliff, with a drop behind them. At that moment, a jam occurred on the route. Many people had to spend up to an hour in a hanging position to move forward. Despite a longer moment of horror, no one was harmed, and everyone safely descended the path.
The video shocked the internet
"Despite the scare, where some visibly distressed tourists cried out, the park staff reassured that safety measures were in place, including constant monitoring and on-site coaches," - reads the post in Shanghai Daily.
Yandang Mountain is 1,150 meters high and about 400 kilometres from Shanghai. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
