Use avocado pits as natural fertiliser for healthy houseplants

Instead of throwing away the avocado pit, it's worth using it as a natural fertiliser for houseplants. This eco-friendly solution provides the soil with valuable minerals, supporting plant growth and flowering.

Avocado, a delicious and healthy vegetable, has become extremely popular recently. It increasingly appears on our tables, being added to salads, sandwiches, or smoothies. However, most of us unhesitatingly discard its pit after consuming the fruit.

This is a big mistake! Although seemingly unassuming at first glance, the avocado pit contains plenty of valuable nutrients that can successfully support the development of our potted plants.

Avocado pit – a wealth of nutrients

Avocado pits are rich in minerals that positively affect plant growth. They contain potassium, phosphorus, and antioxidant compounds that help plants thrive. Potassium supports photosynthesis and water management in plants, while phosphorus stimulates root development and flowering. Moreover, avocado pits do not contain artificial chemicals that can harm plants and pollute the environment.

Natural fertiliser for your plants

Avocado pit fertiliser works excellently in caring for houseplants such as orchids, ficuses, ferns, and succulents. Regular use of the fertiliser allows plants to bloom better, strengthens the root system, and promotes lush leaf growth. Significantly, this natural fertiliser does not burden plants with an excess of chemical components, which can be a problem when using artificial fertilisers.

Making it is simpler than it seems. After separating the pit from the pulp, simply rinse it thoroughly under running water and leave it to dry for a few days. Once the pit is completely dry, grate it into a fine powder using a grater or blender, then mix it with the soil in pots. One tablespoon of fertiliser per pot is enough for the plants to start benefiting from the pit's beneficial components.

This is a simple but effective way to introduce eco-friendly solutions into your home. Moreover, fertilising plants with natural ingredients is much safer for the health of household members, especially with children or pets at home.
