US MQ9 Reaper drone makes emergency landing

An unarmed American MQ9 Reaper drone lost connection with its base in Mirosławiec. As reported by the General Command of the Armed Forces, an emergency landing of the drone was ordered. It was brought to the ground after 10 PM GMT.

The information about the incident was first provided by RMF FM. The General Command of the Armed Forces confirmed it around 9:25 PM GMT.

The military informed that after 10 PM GMT, the drone made an emergency landing in the vicinity of Mirosławiec. The landing of the drone took place in a secured, uninhabited area.

As stated in the announcement, the unit belonging to the American forces was conducting a scheduled quarterly training when it suddenly lost connection with the base in Mirosławiec, situated in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

As reported by RMF FM, the drone began to circle over Mirosławiec airport. Local police blocked the roads between Mirosławiec and Wałcz.

The area was already being secured by the services at the time of the announcement, with the police blocking, among others, roads between Mirosławiec and Wałcz. The area beyond the airport perimeter was also under the control of the services - in case the drone could not be landed within the base area.

The drone has a wingspan of several tens of feet. The MQ-9 Reaper is an American unmanned air vehicle mainly used by the US Air Force and the RAF. Since March 1, 2019, the Reaper base in Mirosławiec has been fully operational.
