Unveiled: Is "Squid Game" season 3 date hidden in plain sight?
Could the tightly guarded release date for the third season of "Squid Game" have been accidentally leaked? The internet is abuzz with rumours about when the final chapter of this groundbreaking story will begin.
The second season of "Squid Game" has been available on Netflix since 26th December. The streaming giant cleverly planned this release and is sparing no expense in promoting one of its biggest titles. No wonder the series became an instant hit on the platform.
"Squid Game. Season 2" generated as many as 68 million views at launch, which translates to 487 million hours of viewing time by audiences. The Korean production has topped Netflix's charts in all countries worldwide for a week.
Officially, it's only known that the third season, filmed concurrently with the second, is set to premiere later this year. The situation where audiences waited three years for the next instalment will not be repeated. But when exactly?
Data leak
There's a buzz online about a date that appeared... and quickly disappeared. It involves the trailer for the second season published on Netflix's Korean YouTube channel, which contained a teaser for the next instalment on 27th June.
This is not the end of the online rumours about this title, although the latest reports seem outright absurd and have been firmly denied by Netflix. A Korean service spread the rumour that Leonardo DiCaprio would appear in the new season. Such unbelievable news that we decided to treat it as a joke.
As for the question of the premiere date, it's quite possible the answer has been in front of us all along. In the first episode of the second season, the character Gi-hun looks tensely at a calendar, marking the days he failed to reach the game organisers. It's June, the time when new players are recruited.
The third season of "Squid Game" is not the only important premiere this year. The second season of "Wednesday" and the fifth part of "Stranger Things" are also coming.
