Many homemakers commonly use orange peel. After all, it's hard for many to imagine doughnuts or other pastries without orange peel—some love to drink tea with it or add it to various tinctures or scrubs. The citrus scent of orange peel is so pleasant that it's often an ingredient in various cosmetics and perfumes. However, that's not all. It can also be used in the garden. We’ll show you how!

What can orange peel be used for in the garden?

The current weather is conducive to working in the garden. Spring has finally arrived, making it ideal for all kinds of garden tidying, fertilizing, and planting. Orange peel has many uses in the garden, too. So, how can you use it?

Above all, orange peel can act as a very effective pest and insect repellent. The reason is its very intense citrus scent. Ants, aphids, spiders, and mice do not like it. Scatter small pieces of orange peel under the plants. Remember, however, that it loses its properties once the peel becomes dried out. So, you need to replace it frequently.

Orange peels contain a lot of fibre and useful vitamins and minerals. They have many applications in the kitchen but can also be useful in the garden. Orange peel will be a great enrichment for the soil. Simply add it to the compost. Given that the peel is rich in nitrogen, it will contribute to producing even better compost. However, it is important to cut the orange peels into small pieces. This will speed up the decomposition process and avoid attracting insects.

That's not all. Orange peels can also be an ideal decorative addition. For example, you can spread dried peels as an additional ingredient in mulch between pathways. Additionally, if you like manual work, you can thread dried orange peels and slices of other citrus on a thread and make minimalistic hanging decorations for the patio or the gazebo. And you, what's your way of using orange peels?
