Ukrainian naval drones strike Kerch Bridge, Russia responds
Russian occupation authorities in Crimea closed the Kerch Bridge for several hours following an attack by Ukrainian naval drones. Loud explosions were heard in the city of Kerch.
On Friday morning, the Russians closed the Crimean Bridge, a vital link connecting Crimea with Russia, after Ukrainian naval drones attacked this strategic infrastructure. Authorities in Moscow confirmed the incident, and residents of Kerch reported loud explosions that shook the city.
"(...) Ukrainian naval drone attack is underway in the Kerch Strait." "Windows are shaking from the explosions," reported the Crimean Wind channel on Telegram in the morning, stating that Russian forces were firing at the drones from the shore, water, and air.
Occupiers disrupted communications
The channel also reported that the occupiers severely disrupted communications around Kerch and the bridge, leading to the appearance of ships on land on interactive maritime maps in the area.
The Russian Ministry of Defence reported the shooting down of one aerial drone and the destruction of two naval drones. "Crews of naval aviation and the Black Sea Fleet in the Black Sea basin destroyed two Ukrainian unmanned boats heading towards the Crimean Peninsula," the ministry stated.
Despite this, Ukrainian attacks continue to pose a significant challenge to Russian infrastructure, forcing the Russians to adopt innovative methods to protect the bridge.
