Ukrainian soldiers from the 79th Separate Air Assault Brigade fought one of the largest battles of the entire war. The Russian army has attacked Ukraine again with great force. As reported by Ukrainian politician and analyst Anton Herashchenko, the Russian invaders sent 11 tanks, 45 armoured personnel carriers, and 1 tank support vehicle, the famous Terminator, into battle in the Donetsk region. The Russians also attacked on motorcycles, sending 12 "racers."
The Ukrainian army detected Russian equipment on the outskirts of the frontline near the village of Kurakhove. Artillery immediately went to work on the occupiers' lines, inflicting heavy losses. Many of Vladimir Putin's army vehicles exploded on mines, and many Russian soldiers were killed.
As a result of the battle, Ukrainians destroyed six enemy tanks and seven armoured personnel carriers. All 12 motorcycles were burned. The Russians suffered enormous losses in "humanpower," as at least several dozen enemy soldiers were killed. An equal number went missing or were deemed wounded and unfit for combat.
After the initial destruction of tanks and armoured vehicles, the rest of the occupiers fled the battlefield - emphasises the Ukrainian analyst.
Ukrainians, at a difficult moment of the war, when Russians are attacking the frontline and trying to break it at all costs, achieved a truly significant success. They not only defended themselves against a powerful enemy attack but also significantly weakened them in the Donetsk region. Bloody and heavy battles have been ongoing there since the autumn, following the massive attack on Avdiivka.
More equipment from the West for Ukraine
Ukraine will soon receive an additional batch of Leopard 2A4 tanks. These are machines that the Netherlands and Denmark purchased for Kyiv in 2023.
In recent months, the tanks were repaired by the German company Rheinmetall. They also underwent tests to prove their effectiveness on the frontline. The Leopard 2A4s will be handed over to Ukrainian soldiers before the end of the summer.
It is worth recalling that the Netherlands and Denmark are part of an international coalition supplying Ukraine with modern combat tanks. This coalition also includes Germany. The countries are acquiring both Leopard 1 tanks and newer versions, such as Leopard 2, for Kyiv.
